Société Picard, founded in 1720, was originally a hardware merchant specialized in the supplies for the building sector. Year 1926 marked the introduction of an innovative breakthrough with the creation of the Vigie-Picard pump lock with the round-stem key for combination master key systems in the Picardie workshop. In 1942 the installation of a new Picard plant in the department of the Somme represented a new milestone. Since 1970, a line of high security Trident multi-point locks have been manufactured at its plant.

In the 1980s, Picard pursued its development, pioneering an adaptation with a cylinder lock flat key and creating the Vigistar copy-proof cylinder key. To complete the Trident line, Picard launched a line of high security shielded locks and an electronic lock "Parade". In 1992, PICARD added to its portfolio products of the most prestigious line on the market: VAK locks.
